Clinical-Stage Medical Device Company
Aethlon Medical is developing the Hemopurifier, an extracorporeal device designed to remove enveloped viruses and tumor-derived extracellular vesicles from blood. The company is pursuing applications in oncology, life-threatening viral infections, and other inflammation-associated diseases.
Hemopurifier Mechanism
The Hemopurifier combines plasma separation, size exclusion, and affinity binding using a plant-derived lectin resin that targets mannose-rich structures on extracellular vesicles and viral surfaces. Tumor-derived EVs are believed to contribute to metastasis and resistance to immunotherapy and chemotherapy.
Oncology and Infectious Disease Platform
The same extracorporeal filtration approach may be applicable across diseases involving circulating pathogenic particles. Aethlon is currently prioritizing tumor-derived EV removal in oncology while retaining potential applications in severe enveloped viral infections.
Oncology Development Path
Aethlon is conducting an Australian study in patients with solid tumors whose disease is stable or progressing on anti-PD-1 therapy. The first two dose cohorts have been completed, and treatment has begun in the third and final cohort.
