Apellis Pharmaceuticals develops medicines that inhibit complement protein C3, a central control point in the complement cascade. Its portfolio applies the same core biology to retinal, hematologic and renal diseases.
SYFOVRE
SYFOVRE is an intravitreal pegcetacoplan therapy and the first approved treatment for geographic atrophy secondary to age-related macular degeneration. Apellis retains worldwide ophthalmology rights and is developing a prefilled-syringe presentation.
EMPAVELI
EMPAVELI, or systemic pegcetacoplan, is approved in the United States for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, C3 glomerulopathy and primary immune-complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. Sobi commercializes systemic pegcetacoplan outside the United States.
Rare-Kidney Expansion
Pivotal studies are evaluating EMPAVELI in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and delayed graft function. These programs extend systemic C3 inhibition into additional kidney diseases with substantial complement involvement.
Next-Generation Pipeline
APL-3007 is being combined with SYFOVRE in Phase 2 to achieve broader complement blockade in the retina and choroid. APL-90992 is a preclinical base-editing program intended to create a one-time treatment targeting the neonatal Fc receptor.
